The UK warns chances of a breakthrough are "receding", as it negotiates with the EU over business rules.
Toe the line I think you mean....tow the line is what trawlers do, perhaps Gavin Williamson can explain, after all he is a genius and better than any foreign education secretary.
A general election would see a landslide Labour win, but then everything would be worse.
It seems we have generation self self self.
It seems we have generation self self self.
Ah, yes, name-calling. Always the thinking man's reaction to an arguement...
How can you have a confused cured joint of meat?
No
Why do you have to resort to insults? This government is awful, true, but a Corbyn-led government would be infinitely worse. For the record I'm 67, voted to stay in the EU and voted LibDem last time around because there was nobody else I could hold my nose and vote for. I'm hoping Kier Starmer manages to clear the Marxist Morons out of the PLP, but I'm not holding my breath.
A bit of posturing on the side of the UK negotiation team. The truth is that with Brexit we do not regain our sovereignty. On the contrary, we have become weaker as a country and other countries (including EU) will take advantage of that. Unfortunately, that's how it works in the real world. We should get complete control of our fishing waters after a trasnsition period perhaps but we will not.

I will never forgive those who have stripped this country of its place at the table of Europe and my rights to live, work and travel freely anywhere in this beautiful continent of ours. To those who voted for lies and xenophobia, shame on you. I hope you get what you deserve.

You can always go and live in EU. If UK is so bad surely your would be a fool to stay here.
I don't remember not being able to go to Europe before we joined. All those BR ferries must have been running empty no wonder BR lost money!!
I did, but you are mistaken to believe you have lost that much. You haven’t ??
You can still do all that!
I have several relatives who fully intend continuing all those things.
Some even work in other non EU countries around the World.
A little extra paperwork maybe but you are not forbidden to do any of those things.
Nothing is impossible.
You are even (shock, horror) allowed to go on holiday to the vast majority of countries all over the globe!!

And I will never forgive those who think like you do! That shaming people who exercised their right in a free society to cast a vote.
It is this thinking that has ripped families and long standing friendships apart and put all of us at a disadvantage.
If people like you had just accepted what was in front of them, the country would be a lot happier place!

Typical self centred comment only about him or her when it should be about for the good of the country. Glad we didn't have your sort when Germany invaded Poland.
if its so great to live in france why are so many migrants trying to come to live in england
As a Brummie I can respect why you want to live elsewhere. Our anti business, anti freedom council has destroyed this city permanently in just 2 decades.
Youv had a lifetime to leave and live in Warsaw but you choose to stay in the best country in Europe obviously stop trolling for up votes it's sad very very sad
all that says is " you will not accept democracy" in which case you have no right to vote in this country, you could always move?
I doubt if any leave voters are bothered about your forgiveness one way or the other - there were more important issues at stake. Also there was a good window of opportunity for you to move to the EU, which you haven’t done, so you are responsible for your own situation.
Oh you poor thing. Make sure the knob on the door does not hit you on the back when you leave the UK. Goodbye

Lets be realistic on here. Fishing is important however the UK must have control of it's own water. That is the deal breaker for any island nation. However there has to be a compromise to phase out EU fishing boats in UK waters to allow the Brexit Deal to go through. After all I've just ordered a new S Class Merc and do not want tariff charges
Hope everybody who voted fro Brexit is satisfied - here we are with Pandemic on our hands and saying everything will return to normal after Easter. What will normal be after we leave the EU - fighting for our economic lives. You idiots who voted to leave!!

Neil, how sad it is that you do not see that we voted leave for a better life, getting the vaccine first proves that being out of teh EU is better. Food will be cheaper, opportunity better, poor parts of the UK will see greater employment through free ports, state aid can be given to help organisations adapt and grow. The UK will benefit not just the south east

FYI, there is no cod in our waters - it's all Icelandic and Norwegian. Would you like to take your stupid comment back, apologise to the class for your ignorance, and try again?
We know what’s going to happen. Boris will cave in, like the weak person he is, and we shall forever be tied into the EU. At the end of the day, Britain have NEVER voted to go into the EEC/EU, we have only ever been forced to be in their crappy project by Heath/Major/Blair/Brown (all corrupt traitors), and Boris is no different.

No such thing as a hard brexit, only a true brexit and that is a no deal brexit. Let it be so Boris, otherwise the fight will continue.

Barnier's actions speak volumes.
The EU is desperate for a deal, but our negotiators should hold off altogether and direct their attention to the rest of the world where better arrangements are in wait.
The real pity is that the government has completely overlooked its best negotiator, ie Nigel Farage - a man with comprehensive experience of business and one hundred per cent pro Britain.

How odd, the Political Declaration signed ages ago already specified that both sides would uphold the common high standards in force at end of transition period in things like the level playing field and workers rights.
So which side has ripped the political declaration up? Yes the EU

I cannot understand the remainers on here. With the large number that comment that we should never have left the EU it beggars belief as they should have won the vote by a landside. Oh that's right they never bothered to vote and now want to moan about us leaving. To late you had your chance and never took it, no one else to blame but yourselves. That's what democracy is about.

The EU is a cafe and a sandwich culture ... tourism, cliches and gay orgies in Brussels.
There was. A far-right Hungarian government minister got caught at it shinning down a drainpipe. It probably wasn't the first pole he'd slid down that night. Elected on a ticket of traditional family values. Snigger.

theyre all gutted they had to go back to work. Corbyn would have let them sit with their feet up whilst the mythical rich pay for everything
Ironically, it'll be leavers - the metropolitan elite, remember, who will be in a position to ensure that any wealth and opportunities that remain after Brexit will drift upwards towards them - who will be most likely to hang onto their jobs.
Frankly, it no longer matters whose side anyone was on during the referendum. What matters now is that we must work with, not against, the EU to get a deal that will enable both sides to trade profitably together. Otherwise we will all be on the losing side. It's time to end the pantomime and get the job done.

Politically silly over fishes? Unlike the UK, I suppose?
Time to call nationwide vote on this total farce.

Brexiteers put themselves under unnecessary pressure by making a deal time-bound. This increases the prospect of No Deal or a bad deal for the UK.
It’s better to agree an extension now and let a new PM negotiate at leisure once COVID is under control. There’s no point in continuing under Bojo; it’s a shambles.

We're doing it because of right-wing Tories who want a lala land laissez-faire economic system.
The last time we had this type of economy was when Britain ruled the waves & used gun boat diplomacy to make countries free trade with us. The majority of UK citizens lived in abject poverty.
Tories want rid of all public services, employment, consumer and environmental protection laws.

What else can they do? Their Universal Credit paid from the taxes of hard working high earning Remainders doesn't extend that far...
I'm working class and a passionate remainer. What the hell you are I can only guess.
How will Brexit help the working class? How will it help anyone? Only better understanding of the difficulties faced by the various sections of society and responding with positive policies will there be any change. Tory politicians do not have a good history in this area.
Can’t wait till this is all over and the economy crashes, food shortages, mass unemployment (in the north), no future for the kids, no money for public services or benefits .... then all the brexiteers will shut up and deny they ever voted leave .... but they will be ridiculed and blamed for decades to come... there will be jokes about them.
I see the remoaners are still on here remoaning after 4 years. They cannot accept democracy and ignore the EU negotiators have been duplicitous, but will happily scream when our Government is does not play by the rules to counter act.
Get over it we are leaving. We need get on with it.
Get over it we are leaving. We need get on with it.
For democracy to work it needs to work in the rule of law. Everyone with a shred of intelligence knows the Brexit referendum was as illegal as one can get! Remainers will never accept an illegal and corrupt referendum. Shame Brexthickears are happy to abide with rule and regulation breaking. Or dumb enough not to know it happened.

BBC is a high quality factual news organisation - so you should expect intelligent, well considered contributions on HYS - no the reactive jingoistic drivel you may read elsewhere.
I would suggest that anyone who accuses those who disagree with him/her as ‘muppets’ shouldn’t be taken seriously. You really don’t do your fellow brexiteers any favours with your immature attitude.
Oh we haven't forgotten the sordid and compromised exercise that was the referendum. In fact we've paid it far too much respect, over the obvious change of heart expressed by our country since. The people who need to get real are those keen on ruining our country by running away, sacrificing our children and grandchildren's future for a pack of lies.

The UK backed the wrong horse in the US election by cosying up to Mr Trump and a quick US trade deal is now highly unlikely.
Our former colonies are reluctant to support a country that dominated and plundered their natural resources.
The only hop to save the UK is for a trade deal with the EU. Or reverse Brexit

It's hilarious how Brextremists are criticising France because they insist on protecting their own national interest.
Brextremists dug the sovereignty trenches and are manning the gun emplacements.
Brextremists are going to be killed in action rather than negotiate with an open mind.

So if the eventual deal doesn't recognise this, a hugely expensive court case will be falling on the UK's doorstep,a court case that the UK will lose.

To be honest, I think fishing rights matters far more because of what it represents (control of our own waters) , than because of a purely economic case. I do think though that, as in everything else, a compromise needs to be reached. Perhaps some period of winding down EU fishing in our waters, which would give them time to adjust.

I don't see any country in the EU hurrying to follow us through the exit door - which speaks volumes.
Time is sure running out, can a proper deal be reached? Or more likely a quick have baked deal, assuming a deal can be reached at all.
Just looked in to check that Brexit related HYS is still an echo chamber for Remoaners.
Yep. All normal. As you were. Carry on. Removed

Yes it's a relief to NOT see the real losers, the leavers, who can't get out of the habit of lying and making fake assertions.
So much nicer this way.
So much nicer this way.
Of course, no Brexiteers here at all except you....?? usual inane level of Brexit comment
Just looked in to check that Brexit related HYS is still a cesspool of Brexiteer lies & bigotry. Yep. All normal. I am sure they will all carry on, as they were, are & will be until the sun goes supernova.
The French Government and Macron would do well to remember that the UK gave sanctuary to Charles de Gaulle and his wife in WW2 at a lovely country house near Ashridge Forest in the Chiltern Hills. If it wasn't for the British generosity, France would have ceased to exist. Please give the UK back its fishing rights as a thank you.
I will never forgive those who have stripped this country of its place at the table of Europe and my rights to live, work and travel freely anywhere in this beautiful continent of ours. To those who voted for lies and xenophobia, shame on you. I hope you get what you deserve.

Oh Goody, another bigoted Gammonfest !
There, fixed it for you

Remoaner is sooooo 2016.
It's leavers, no dealers and Brejoiners now.

After 4 years the typical BrExiter response is to insult rather than inform. It must be really hard to be a Brexit supporter; you have no idea what the implications of your actions are but you assume by insulting people it makes you look clever. Sadly, it doesn't, it makes you look thick and perpetuates the belief that Brexit supporters are ignorant, lazy and racists
Oh, dear.
Looks like the stronger party in these negotiations has upped the ante and now has the weaker by the short and curlies.
Who would have thought it?! Obviously not those who believed all the guff about "the easiest deal in history" and "they need us more than we need them".
And Uncle Joe Biden will be making another of his 'stern' calls to Spaffer about the IMB.

The UK's whole approach to these negotiations was to threaten the EU with a UK-US agreement, courtesy of a man who will now be out of office - and probably on his way to jail - come January.
Some bet.
Still, we all get a haddock.
Maybe.

It's funny that Brexiters talk about "trading with the rest of the world", when the closest most of them have got is the weekly shop at their local Co-op. ??

Stop with the Boris BS, as though he's your mate. Johnson promised an oven ready deal, and failed to deliver. Tell me (a) what "expected drama", Ireland was one of a myriad of things, either never discussed or probably lied about by the brexit mob prior to and during the referendum vote (b) why we should compromise on human rights and in what way?? Own the BS you obviously voted for mate!!!

Brexiteers get everything that they deserve. Unfortunately it will affect everyone. English people have to realize that everyone in the world detests the English and that they are not as important in world affairs that they think. The arrogance of the English holds no credence. They will all have to suffer in their own juices for many years to come. Don't come crying when all falls in on them
Line up to post derogatory remarks against who ever you like so long as you tow the line and don't insult the EU.
All insults against the UK are regarding as acceptable providing the term idiot, useless and pathetic is included.
BBC will monitor this HYS to ensure its sufficiently anti UK and anti Tory. Removed
