Good solid win for England against a Wales that offered little in attack.

England just getting ready for a proper match next week against France.

Ok so positives first: A win in Wales is always a very tough task and so something to be pleased about. Job done.

That being said, England were quite underwhelming. Game against Wales at a packed Principality Stadium could have been a very different story. Big well done to a young Wales team on a courageous performance.

Need a big step up in performance to put France away next weekend!

Pivac has been found out as at best a mediocre coach in the Champions Cup and now in Northern Hemisphere international Rugby. Taken over world cup semi-finalists who came close to making the final to losing against all comers except Georgia. Just makes so clear how good Gatland was and what a difference a coach can make on a bunch of iffy players

Steve he did not blame the ref as such, he was correct about the taking out of Biggar and he completely ignored the TMO with Daly shoulder charge on Adams never mind the trying to wrap,it was a shoulder to the head. As the commentary team remarked a few dodgy scrum pens as well.
Having said that Eng were a lot better than Wales but not 2 in the world ! Some encouraging signs for Wales

Bigger taken in the air before England try . Referee overruled the tmo , didn't even check it . Daley hits Adams in the chin , tmo thinks thats fine ? I think pivac is well within his rights to question the refereeing and tmo performance

Yes Pivac had every right to blame the ref, that first half performance alone wouldn't have met grassroots level expectations! That said England were worthy winners just! Bigger being taken out for the try was a joke and if it had been the other way around every fan in England would be crying foul! The refs management of the scrum and the breakdown were questionable!
29/11/2020 08:54:28 0 2

Don't think Pivac was blaming the ref for the loss, simply to take a longer look at the Biggar and Adams incidents, and also the blocking by the backs.....

You would be wrong to blame the referee for Wales defeat, but right to criticise him for his performance. Poite was terrible and way past his best, if he ever was best. Compare that with the performance of the older Owens its like night and day. Poite is old and past it and really should be sent to pasture. The 3rd team pitch at his club will do.

Yep, footy manager tactics to try to distract from the game to blame the ref- clutching at straws but with such weak regions, small player base & ageing team, he’ll need to find a few more English players with Welsh ancestors or it will be a v hard shift for him & the supporters

28/11/2020 23:00:14 0 1

Agreed, even if the ref had made those calls in Wales favour the result would be the same as England were in control. Some of the scrum calls were very strange, a prop belly-flopping 1st half concedes a penalty, a prop doing the same 2nd half wins a penalty. Both lost their footing, where is the consistency. Ref's are human and make mistakes but if they're consistent then it will usually even out.

WRU need to think seriously about investing in a fitness coach and a nutrition expert. The Welsh props were a disgrace, not only could they not scrummage, they didn’t carry the ball once in the whole match. Professional performance. Habana in the gantry exactly right - Wales at least showed some heart but they still couldn’t lay a glove on England. Good to see the ref put Wynge-Jones back in his box a bit and stop his constant chirping. You were not on the field of play, the referee was. I have checked the video - he was three yards from the incident and had a clear and unobstructed view. It is very clear that Biggar fell onto Underhill as he came down - the latter did not move and made no attempt at a tackle. There is no reason why the referee should not be completely clear in his mind about what happened, so no need to review.

The defensive line sets off as soon as the scrum half gets his hands on the ball these days and its killing attractive passing attacks.

Wales didn't deserve a win, we never really bossed any part of this game and yes the ref was poor but we just made it easy for him to be one eyed and fair play England ground it out! But there is something about that English team that isn't nice! My Wife is not from a rugby playing country and she said a few choice words about a few English players not all but a few!

Biggar jumped for the ball and his forward momentum took him into the arms of an at-the-time statuesque Underhill. That is why the referee didn’t see any wrongdoing by Underhill. Another good decision by 7 white, a formidable test player and motm.

Agree with some of what you say - England were never under any real pressure and won at a canter - but the sport is pretty cyclical - in a year or two Wales will be competitive again, but your comment re kicking will = empty stadiums is complete tosh - kicking has been about forever and was as prevalent in the 80s 90s and noughties google Garryowen

'Let's be realistic - at no point did we (Wal) make Eng uncomfortable. Set piece is still a total liability"

Well let's see! first 15 mins Wales easily held their own in the scrum, but for some incredibly awful officiating where Lee was pinged three when it was clear he was engaging 100% correctly up to then and they were 7-0 ahead. I would say the Plan A was slightly frayed and crappy pants time

A little harsh on Pivic, the entire RWC Wales had it easy playing a shocking Aus, you beat the French by a point who had 14 men for much of the match. It is indicative of the real quality of the players, or the lack of it. Not being able to execute basic skills is the fault of the players not the coach. Keedy (coached outside Wales), Tomkins (developed and coached outside Wales), Biggar (learnt to spot a running gap whilst outside Wales), Halfpenny a player who can kick but offer nothing in attack is guaranteed of a place.

An off day with the boot from Farrell made the score more respectable. England were off par but Wales perhaps with something to smile about.

Perhaps England saving a bit for France.

I think it was deemed a charge down because Biggar moved his hand - arguably defensively -whereas had his hand been stationary and the ball richoted it would be perceived as a knock-on... Hand moved to deflect the ball - charge down...

law is boot to hand like that is a charge down not a knock on! we may have the best ref but our regional teams can't deal with the breakdown and he's not helping they get to grips with it. Mind you I think he needs to coach the other refs because they don't have a clue and that is is all games not just ones wales are playing.

So pretty much spot on then given it was an 11 point win. Not exactly what I would call a "heavy" win. Scoring 4 tries or a 25-30 point is a heavy win IMO. The bookies are also never able to consider the psychological edge of certain fixtures. Wales ALWAYS raise their game for England. Their best match in the most recent 6N was against England too.

Scrums are awful at the moment. It saps all the life out the game when there are one or two resets every time. Have one go at it, if it doesn't work, give a penalty or a free-kick and get the game back on.

Fair to say that the ref was only looking one way when it came down to foul play. The first England try should not have stood as Biggar was taken in the air, and the shoulder charge on Adams should have been refereed better. All in all Poite had a bad game from the Welsh perspective, but a great one for his adopted country...
