Brexit: Barnier arrives in UK for face-to-face talks
27/11/2020 | news | politics | 6,943
The EU's Michel Barnier arrived in London on Friday evening, as the two sides try to agree a deal.
Hey, BBC, why no mention of the Fisheries Bill becoming law on 23rd November 2020 protecting our fishing industries and our territorial waters? Too much of a pro UK and anti EU story for you is it? No wonder why your viewers are turning away in their droves.

Report the facts BBC, not some selective propaganda that doesn't fit your lefty/liberal, pro EU bias.

And how will the Fisheries Bill "protect your fishing industry"? It just means the fish will stay in the sea and you lose the cash they would have earned you. It's not worth the paper it's written on because it's meaningless and can't be enforced.

Go back and play with your paddling pool.

There are about 2 fishing boats in Britain. You are celebrating something that adds less to the economy and supports fewer jobs than nail technicians. If Farage had done his job as Fisheries MSP this could have been resolved years ago. But all he did is pocket the wage and not turn up to meetings.

Fishing is highly emotive but economically irrelevant. A fraction of one percent of our economy and we sell most of it o Europe anyway because we don't eat what we catch. Makes good tabloid headlines for Brexiteer consumption though.

This Fisheries Bill protect the rights of our fishing industry in UK law and has been passed by the UK Parliament. What it does is guarantee in law that no foreign power can fish in UK waters without the UK governments say so. That is pretty powerful. You should read up on it before commenting.

Feel the same Peter (00.06). While losing rights and opportunities in our own continent it's hard to care any more whether we have a really damaging outcome or a really, really damaging outcome. These people actually celebrate the loss of our rights and the there's a bitter part of me that thinks maybe they need to experience the economic pain of brexit then. We warned them for years.
The bulk of leavers were pensioners (7m) and 55-64 year olds (another 7m) who have little or no economic skin in the game. They had an ill-informed tantrum about forrin, austerity and 'other' (lumbago, a hankering for the 1970s, etc etc) and now hide behind a self-righteous and diminishing Cult, and give not a toss for the mess they caused ...... Of course they are protecable by any government with a spine. Yes see if the eu wants a war over stealing our fish. Drones can attack fishing boats. Not like we are trying to put boats fishing in their waters. if someone was doing it to them they would be quick enough to ask us for help.
1.5 million people in Kent will see the Garden of England – much of the population of which, in all fairness, was stupid enough to vote for Brexit – turned into a giant carpark/urinal.

Why? To protect 12,000 fishermen – we'll lose 20% of them when Scots get independence –, which sold on most of its quotas anyway. Ah, the genius of Boris, Cummings and Farage.

Contrast the value of the UK car industry ,considerably bigger than fishing and their shabby treatment by British negotiators compared to the smaller fishing lobby, it is just another example how perplexing Britain,s negotiating stance has been.
I,m sure the E.E.C. too are bemused but French fishermen will never accept British fish if they don,t get a good deal which basically is the status quo.

I feel the moment arriving when Boris quietly admits the compromises, while the nation has its eyes on CV19, & we get a meagre deal to keep things moving in Jan.

We already were sovereign. We could have had any passport colour we wanted. We did not have to allow large scale immigration - we chose to allow it. The NHS will not get extra. We had a veto on future membership. There is no EU army. We had free trade and resulting economic prosperity. We were a player on the world stage.

Now there is Covid. Can anyone explain why they still support brexit chaos?

Why do people go on about the campaign for Brexit. Do they not believe that people already had an opinion before any of it started? I was happy to be part of the EEC we had free trade with member countries. What I wasn't happy about was the eroding of our control over our own country. We were also one of the few countries who abided by EU rules, others ignored them if they didn't like them.

2.they let in millions from our warzones, now a serious domestic terror threat completely self inflicted

The only way you reform the EU is by leaving it. We have tried debating.
1, Drivel - that was globalisation. That's why manufacturing has declined in most advanced capitalist economies. Industry goes to where the cost of production is cheapest. This is basic stuff, so I'm not surprised a Quitter can't grasp it.

2, "Our warzones" - exactly. Didn't you realise that bombing the hell out of countries might just create desperate refugees?

What does the term fascism mean?
Fascism (/'fæ??z?m/) is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and strong regimentation of society and of the economy which came to prominence in early 20th-century Europe.

Hardly, it sounds far more akin to extreme Brexiteerism, after all there are those HYS posters who claim that those who oppose Brexit are "traitors" and "should move to Europe".
The leaders of the EU are the democratically elected heads of government for each member nation, and those democratically elected governments choose who to appoint to the commission.

You have to laugh at the Quitters trying to infer a similarity between Trump and people that voted to remain in the EU. They are opposite ends of the spectrum.

Trump has presented zero evidence of voter fraud to the US Courts.

The UK Courts ruled that the Leave campaign broke electoral law and was therefore undemocratic and is nothing other than an advisory referendum with no legal backbone.

Yes that's the point, thanks to the Brexiters stupidity, we'll probably have to join the Euro (which you're probably better out of) and lose most of the opt-outs you had. But then beggars (and you will be begging) can't be choosers can they?

Yes, they'd be a hell of a double act wouldn't they? On the alternative comedy circuit of course....

You'll have to do some heavy duty deflection to get out of this one....

Imagine if Barnier and Starmer went for a pint together (lock-down allowing). Two men with absolutely nothing to say. The silence would be excruciating.

The greatest danger this country faces as a result of Brexit is the army of armchair doom-sayers. Their propaganda is sapping the energy of those who will have to build, innovate, secure new markets and steer the nation to prosperity. One lot wants the country to fail so they can say 'told you so', the rest want to work for success even if it's a hard slog. I know which lot I prefer.

Barnier returns to UK to talk talk, love the EU huggers desperate deflection/denial post they have been so amusing over the last few years some worthy of a Shakespearean tragicomedy which is amazing as most never went to a UK school, best are the ones of grammar correction however pinnacle is the justify Brexit demand post, like anyone would think they important to reply, keep it up EUers UK smile

Brilliant, in the end it wasn't Brexit or Greta that got my post removed, it was the mention of a former DJ & hospital worker, how 'frustratingly' sad that is. To think I once worked for this charlatanical BBC regime! Removed
