Cycling is not that popular in general and even less so in the UK. Cycling fans are, I’m sure, pretty chuffed to see him win but the general public either aren’t bothered or think he’s a cheat. The legacy of Armstrong will live on for a long time yet.

A simply staggering achievement against all the odds. Tao Geoghegan Hart came to the Giro as a Domestique to Gerraint Thomas and left as a real champion. His team mate Roun Dennis broke the legs of every rider on the last two mountain stages and sent the favourites out the back door. What incredible in-depth talent the UK has in cycling and now we have a new name to champion. Outstanding.

The role of Rohan Dennis was crucial in this win, which was well deserved. TDF they looked disjointed and off the pace, the loss of Portal a key figure in the organisation a great loss. Thomas's demise sort of rubbed it in. But they attacked, attacked and attacked. Ganna got it going, Geoghan Hart moved forward, the team pushed, Dennis pulled and Geoghan Hart won, great result. They scrapped all their plans as soon as G went home. Brailsford just said "go out and ride as hard as you can, and we will deal with things as they arise". Last year Dennis looked like a petulant teenager, arguing with Bahrain-Merida about them not giving him the bike he wanted for the TT. This year he rode his guts out for a younger and less experienced team mate - that was special to watch.

To be fair, the BBC have championed cycling when Cavendish and Wiggins were doing their stuff. The level of reporting on the website is usually woeful though, with errors.

It's largely just institutional bias against cycling by the BBC.
No history of covering the Grand Tours because UK riders were never in contention. Then because it was so well covered by Channel 4 when it became popular.

Then, worst of all, the British winners rode for Team SKY.
Murdoch/SKY are the anti-Christ as far as the BBC are concerned, that's why the BBC lapped up silly drug allegations.

A much more likely answer is that Sky/Ineos has forced the other teams to drag themselves out of the 19th century and pay proper attention to the way they prepare and manage their riders. Younger riders are much more open to more modern training methods and understand much better the importance of things like nutrition, recovery etc. Many older guys thought the best way to train was just to ride.

Wonderful can we now forget about Froome and Thomas, since we all get old (including me !!!!!!!) I cannot see them competing now !!!!! If they do i will be amazed and eat humble pie.

Great win for TGH in a tough Giro albeit in a weak field. Long may Brit dominance continue! Ineos building a very strong team for next year's TdF! But who will lead it?!

A great win for him and from all accounts well deserved. It's been a good week to follow the Giro.

I knew he could do it.
When he won his first stage I was screaming at him to pedal to the finish, he lost a couple of seconds there. I said at that time I hoped those seconds wouldn't lose him the Giro. Fortunately he's gone on to win and well done to him, I'm happy it didn't come down to those lost seconds.

Tao - a proper sportsman and hero - unlike Lewis Hamilton (who’s a joke by comparison). Well done lad.
