But a strange ending...seemed to be massive confusion as Nigel Owens earlier said that the clock should have been rolled back from 37 seconds to 32 seconds but then the TMO said that the penalty went over at 79.57 and that 5 seconds should be added on so the match was over!?!

Mind you...Exeter would have still won! Fair play to both teams for a great game!

Nothing ambiguous. Nigel said to put the clock back to 32secs. When he felt that was too difficult to do on the tv clock, he said to start the clock immediately but just wait to the count of 5 before starting the tv click that was still at 37secs. They still didn’t start the clock for at least another 10/15secs, after Nigel said to do so.

Referees have very little discretion with deliberate knock-ons. The WR guidelines say that in the red zone the protocol should always be "yellow, consider penalty try". I think a card is too harsh a sanction for what is almost always not actually deliberate, just an effort to play the ball; in such circumstances, players have almost no time to think and then control their limbs.

Very much agree, I thought it was very harsh. It was an instinctive move towards a ball he had rights to, if he had caught it there was no offence, so a yellow card for dropping a ball!

Owens was at pains to point out that he doesn't make the laws but perhaps those that do need to differentiate between a conscious action to knock the ball forward and a situation where this isn't the case.

The TMO also said that the clock didn't restart until five seconds after Owens called "time on" just before the penalty - that is where the extra five seconds came from. Simmonds should have waited another ten seconds or so just to be absolutely sure the clock was in there red before he kicked (he had loads of time available to him), but that is easy to say from the tranquillity of one's sofa.

Yes, the suicidal no-look pass just outside the Racing 22 was indeed the moment at which the match was lost, but I think it was Russell that threw it, not anyone from RFU. I'm sure you are aware that RFU had absolutely nothing to do with today's match, which was organised by EPCR (European Professional Club Rugby), involved clubs from FFR and EPRL, and was refereed by an employee of WRU.

European Player of the Year is a misnomer. The award is made to the best player in the European club tournaments, which is obviously a considerable honour, but not quite the same as the title would suggest. As far as the England back row is concerned, without even thinking hard, I suggest Curry B, Curry T, Dombrandt, Underhill, Vunipola, Willis J, Willis T.

"They won the year before..."

...a season during which they also cheated. Whichever way you try and dress it up, Saracens are a vile club, who cheat.

Would you say it's ok for a bank robber to own a mansion in Chelsea, if it was bought with stolen money?

Saracens success is built on cheating!

Maybe. But, possibly with the exception of this match, Exeter execute their 'style' with necessary precision to make it effective which other teams do not seem to be able to do. In any case, if all teams start to play in a similar way, one team or another will find an alternative style of play that gives a winning advantage.

Finn cost Racing the game. Hogg was average, both in attack and defence, and Gray was just that, Grey, he is solid, but about as much spark as a wet match. Hopefully Gatland will take note.

"Finn cost Racing the game"
Strange that on both sides of the water he was rated as excellent, being instrumental in Racings tries, particularly Zebo, even the commentators stated Exeter couldn't cope with Finn. Ref your comments about Gray, you obviously haven't a clue what are the key attributes of a lock. The last time you called him useless in the S-F & he was MOTM. Clearly you haven't a clue

Yet another game spurned by the BBC and dismissed during their news sports roundup as "Oh and by the way, there's also a rugby union final today" following intense coverage of football and a rugby league fnal that was to be shown by the BBC. Typical BBC bias and a furher case of two fingers to licence payers. Thank goodness for Channel 4 and BT Sport.

That's blatently obvious, no-one could establish that, but the other English clubs know it, the same as no-one could establish that Sarries English academy players of 10 yrs ago wouldn't have developed as they have, if they weren't exposed to Sarries highly paid world class players to become the England players today. Many English club players felt they've never had caps because of Sarries players

A farcical end shouldn't detract from a brill win for Chiefs & English rugby!

Briz bought their title, they've lost their identity,Chiefs have done it the proper way the last 10 years.Wish my club could replicate that. We're doing it the Chiefs way & building again from academy upwards, not throwing £££ like Briz.

Wonderful game to watch, and in the main officiated very well by Nigel Owens. However the confusion over the clock should have been avoided - correct decision eventually, but what a palaver. Also, pale blue and white hoops against pale mauve made it very difficult to tell the teams apart at times. Such an unreadable colour clash must not be allowed in any further major rugby matches in my book.

Does anybody actually enjoy watching Exeter play? I mean actually enjoy it? Rugby at its best can be a beautiful game, balanced between powerful forwards and backs with flair and speed. Pounding away at the line from 5 metres for 3/4 of the game is just dull and painful. I guess we've just got used to this as what pro rugby has become but it's dreary fare and not far removed from rugby league :(

Didn't quite understand BBC synopsis of Finn Russell. Was WG there just to watch him? Why are you attempting to create friction in a squad that hasn't even been picked yet. FR was head and shoulders above any other back on that pitch today. He plays high percentage rugby that WG would never understand, and would never be comfortable coaching. That's why he won't be Lions 10. He's way too exciting.

He's also way too flakey. Racing could have and maybe should have won that if Russell had taken the drop goal opportunity about 5 mins before time. Gold plated chance yet didn't even try.

Agree with the observation on the standard of BBC journalism - it is of tabloid standard

Re WG - probably right but that goes for virtually every international coach. They want control not flair - it's just a bonus if a player has it. If Townsend had another 10 of intnl standard he'd trade. It's like history - the army with short hair usually wins
