Exeter 31-27 Racing 92

Exeter Chiefs have just enough to keep Racing 92 at bay and clinch their first Champions Cup title in a thrilling final at Ashton Gate.

Correct, no salary cap in European leagues.
However, as Saracens play in England they are subject to the rules of the English game and that also applies to the rules of renumeration, which they clearly breached - ref Lord Dyson enquiry

Yes... has the law about hands in the ruck been removed? Tackler releasing the player before going for the ball? Grappler supporting his own weight? Especially the last one, given how much it’s been talked about this season. A couple from Exeter but Racing definitely have players with Abs and body positions that defy gravity.

Awesome game though. Well done Exeter.

Racing supporter. Very disappointed. One of those days for Iribaren who had a great 2018 final. Some horrible errors lost us the game which we were then always chasing. Why not take the points at that final penalty or drop a goal rather than force the try.
Well done Exeter however. Wonder how many players will find their way into the England reckoning - both Simmonds and the front row?.

Does anybody actually enjoy watching Exeter play? I mean actually enjoy it? Rugby at its best can be a beautiful game, balanced between powerful forwards and backs with flair and speed. Pounding away at the line from 5 metres for 3/4 of the game is just dull and painful. European Player of the Year is a misnomer. The award is made to the best player in the European club tournaments, which is obviously a considerable honour, but not quite the same as the title would suggest. As far as the England back row is concerned, without even thinking hard, I suggest Curry B, Curry T, Dombrandt, Underhill, Vunipola, Willis J, Willis T.

Why are so few Exeter players in the England team? Is it because Rob Baxter should be England manger and Eddie Jones doesn’t want to support Exeter and their way of playing rugby.

Exeter have the best squad in English rugby, doesn't mean they have the best individual players.

Eddie Jones gave Simmonds a few matches and decided he wasn't big enough (6 foot / 16 stone) for international rugby. I don't remember ever seeing another player bullying him, but it is the case that we have a very large number of very good back row options.

But a strange ending...seemed to be massive confusion as Nigel Owens earlier said that the clock should have been rolled back from 37 seconds to 32 seconds but then the TMO said that the penalty went over at 79.57 and that 5 seconds should be added on so the match was over!?!

Nothing ambiguous. Nigel said to put the clock back to 32secs. When he felt that was too difficult to do on the tv clock, he said to start the clock immediately but just wait to the count of 5 before starting the tv click that was still at 37secs. They still didn’t start the clock for at least another 10/15secs, after Nigel said to do so.
518

The TMO also said that the clock didn't restart until five seconds after Owens called "time on" just before the penalty - that is where the extra five seconds came from. Simmonds should have waited another ten seconds or so just to be absolutely sure the clock was in there red before he kicked (he had loads of time available to him), but that is easy to say from the tranquillity of one's sofa.

Yes, the suicidal no-look pass just outside the Racing 22 was indeed the moment at which the match was lost, but I think it was Russell that threw it, not anyone from RFU. I'm sure you are aware that RFU had absolutely nothing to do with today's match, which was organised by EPCR (European Professional Club Rugby), involved clubs from FFR and EPRL, and was refereed by an employee of WRU.

The Italy v Wales game was a screw up by the welsh captain. Couldn't happen these days as the laws have changed. Quite rightly, teams used to be able to concede pens after the 80 knowing the ball couldn't be kicked to touch.

I dont like the fact that a penalty in the last minute ends the game, would rather they stop the clock for penalties and conversions.
