Considering the guys we had missing through injury and covid I wasn't expecting a close match. The lads proved me wrong though. Both teams played well. To lose is gutting but it's just a pity none of us could be there to watch. Congratulations Leeds and well done to both sides for putting on a cracker of a game??

Well done Leeds for the win.

Competitive contest between 2 teams going at it for 80 mins giving it their all.

And the rugby version of VAR certainly seemed to work much better !

Best of luck to Rob Burrow in his battle against MND.

Class? They struggled to pass consistently, run into gaps, and chose contact over an obvious overlap on both wings regularly. Salford were workmanlike with plenty of effort. Yes harsh - but correct. A player has to retain his balance while playing the ball but Pauli didn't. I don't blame the referee for penalising it, I think it's the law itself that's a bit harsh. The actual act of PTBs must be looked at as something in need of a rule change. Perhaps a foot has to touch the ball. I agree that it was harsh and others went unpunished. BUT I then watched the RU cup final on C4. Refereeing that lot is WAY worse. Any penalty any time could be awarded. THAT was a worse lottery.

After watching a match of that calibre with 80 minutes of non-stop action from two teams who are constantly smashing into each other with such ferocity, I often wonder what footballers think seeing that they fall down and roll around on the ground from the slightest of touches ?

If rugby players can just get up from receiving such hard tackles then why can't footballers?

The answer is ... cheats

It is much easier to play football at the elite level than it is to play RL at the elite level. It is a game based around legalised thuggery and being big is a much bigger asset than be fast and skilful. A play runs 80 minutes and it is described as one of the greatest tries at Wembley

Could have something do with the fact that rugby mainly involves the upper body and football involves the legs. The upper body has much more muscle whereas things like knees and ankles have much less protection. This is confirmed by the difference in injuries that the players get.

Like everyone says, great game, Salford hung in there against a bigger pack. Personally I thought what just tipped the balance was Leeds bringing Dwyer on. The Ireland manager far bigger achievement. Winning comp with only a handful of fully pro sides where you only have to win 4 games isn't impressive. League leaders shield is nothing, it is about the grand final. So he manages the biggest RL club with the biggest resources and largest support and is the best coach in UK sport. Shame about the crowed but we saw a good entertaining game. Rhinos let the game slip away but came back strong in the end,and that’s what counts.I thought Myler deserved the Man of the Match Lance Todd Trophy award.Theres still work to do with this side though, these days unfortunately don’t help. I think Rob Burrows will be very proud of this Wonderful Day.

This was a final between two average teams. Rugby league in this country has gone backwards in quality compared to around 5 years ago. Just look at the quality of each teams players. Myler said Liu controlled the game, give over, he passed the all sideways almost every time and made next to no contribution.

Yes harsh - but correct. A player has to retain his balance while playing the ball but Pauli didn't. I don't blame the referee for penalising it, I think it's the law itself that's a bit harsh. Actually the ref had penalised Donaldson of Leeds for the same thing earlier in the game so at least he was consistent.

If it was "correct" then the ref got it wrong (again) in the next set.
The Leeds player did exactly the same thing and didn't get penalised.
Another refereeing decision for the "big" club which ultimately cost Salford the game.
It drives us fans nuts when refs aren't giving consistent decisions.

I thought the same at the time, but the difference between Prior's and Pauli Pauli's was that PP dropped himself to the floor, barely regained his feet, and in fact wasn't able to stay on his feet after he played it. He was trying to gain an advantage by cheaply getting a quick ptb. He didn't get penalised for using the ball to regain his feet as the commentators claimed.

The referee brought the play back after Salford knocked on despite them taking the ball well over the advantage line, in the set leading to Salford's 3rd try, which was more incorrect than the Pauli offense.
Donaldson also got pulled up for the same thing earlier in the game.

The Ireland manager far bigger achievement. Winning comp with only a handful of fully pro sides where you only have to win 4 games isn't impressive. First 20 minutes did for Salford. Class comment though. Well said, fitting a number 7 won the game.....

Always difficult as a Saint to accept a Leeds win but I remember well how Rob Burrow tore us apart in a grand final!

What a player, what a man!

What a fantastic advert for Rugby League. Makes Union look a poor offering for casual viewers.

It’s a bit sad when league followers do this, taking pops at union. In the glory days kid league, there was no need to do this. Comments like this show just how far league has dropped. Sad.
