Whatever cocktail of drugs Novak took for his COVID 19 did the trick with interest. Perhaps they gave him bleach too? Very well played.
Good to see Djokovic engaging in another publicity stunt to try and win back some support.
But the mask will slip again, as it always does, probably once he gets an opponent who isn't a qualifier. Be it denying science, smacking a line judge or timewasting and feigning injury, there's always something bad around the corner.

Novak is the best. Simple.
You are right, something bad was thrown indeed but from your own corner.
no one is perfect,he shows it on the court, your idol federer or nadal dont show it on the court,we r here to talk about tennis, not human being
Novak Djokovic has had a very easy, lucky time at the French Open 2020so far. Has ONLY played low ranked and lucky loser players. A very lucky b******! Wait till he meets the other talent. He could well be thrashed. That will wipe the grin off his face???

Rublev is the most exciting and a joy to watch, love his forehand, he is my favourite of the Russian trio just for that explosive energy.
He's a good egg too, he comes across as sulky but he is just very passionate. Watched him play at Eastbourne where he lost to Paul Jubb last year and despite everyone supporting our home player I led a respectable applause for him at the end, he appreciated it

I don't really rate Berretini, he's a talent for sure but he's hanging in the top 10 because of the new Covid ranking system and feeding off the 2019 US Open points. 2021 will be the biggest test if we get a full season. He is not in the same league as Thiem, Zverev and Tsitisipas, not yet anyway
I dislike Novak as much as the next man. Nadal the one surface pony is close second not Novak las the tools to deliver and surpass Nadal and Federer .. we may not like it, he has the personality as a dry turd but it will happen ...

This is where Thiem will show what he has - can he get passed Nadal (probably not!) and after that get passed Djokovic (again probably not) but if he can he will show he is the real deal.
Already proved he is the best of the rest but will be tough getting passed 2 of the best ever.

The key for Thiem if he beats Nadal and faces Djokovic in the final, is how much the semi final takes out of him. I feel he will need to beat Nadal in straight sets, which is unlikely. It will be a brutal match for both players.
Thiem good, But he doesn't hold a candle to Rafa and Novak, The 2 real GOAT ??, Rublev is the one to watch

Some of these matches are barely competitive. The best so far was Zverev / Herbert I think.
Again. Yawn.

Well done BBC for taking down a comment where I refer to Rafa having a dry personality. This coming from a company that turned a blind eye to operation ewe tree .. double standards
... and yet the comment denigrating Djokovic stands!!
Yeah BBC you dicks
A female sheep tree? Don’t see the relevance of that to this context. I hope Rafa makes it lucky 13.

But it will be a Rublev Thiem final though
Thiem seemed to be struggling with achillies problem in US Open final. Not seen him yet this year. Does he seem fully fit so far?
Sigh. If he wasn't such a....dork? imagine how much we'd be celebrating his sporting prowess! But as it is, he could be the most amazing athlete the world has ever seen, but his arrogance and personality will always be his undoing!
It’s Novak’s year for the Frenchman Open , the draw has given it to him on a silver platter.
Nadal May get past Zeverev but then there will be a nasty batttle with Thiem in the semis . Djokovic will sail through to the final and be fresh .
The only way Djokovic can lose this championship is if he puts another official in hospital.

What are you talking about? I’m not a fan but Hes number one in the world and for me, comfortably the best player in the last decade.
Guess it's impossible to expect everyone to like him, but for me Djokovic lights up the court. It's just a pity there has been so little coverage.

I am struggling to think of any reasons why people are calling Djokovic arrogant. How specifically has he shown this trait? To me his behaviour when he loses a match is extremely good. Better even than Nadal or Federer. I know of the US Open incident but none calls Henman or Shapovalov arrogant.
It's just the 'in' thing to say at the moment.
Our country's finest ever player constantly yelled expletives in matches during his prime yet almost nobody ever commented on it, Nadal has broke the rules for years constantly going over the time limit for serving + wants the tour finals to be on clay purely for himself and Federer has had outbursts where he's been in the wrong.

There are not enough characters allowed to give you a full answer. He is not arrogant just obsessed with winning so much it reflects in his behaviour and when he is down on the score he often deploys unsportsmanlike tactics to try and break his opponents rhythm. Recent examples include last year's French Open semi final and the recent US Open this year.

No offence to Galan but it was borderline pitiful to watch, couple of times during the match he looked among the most deflated I've ever seen among tennis players.
Best story is obviously Altmaier but Fucsovics deserves some attention, the guy gets some of the most difficult draws for unseeded players in nearly every slam so it's great to see him get as far as he has.

Agree, congratulations for Galan's run of course but he was out of his depth and it visibly showed.
Fucsovics is quietly going about his business, he is a very good player who is getting better and better all the time. An excellent performance against Medvedev the other night and he deserved it for all the hard work he has put in over the last couple of years. I wish him well in week 2

His forehand is a devastating shot, a bit like Gonzo's, but he has a great all around game and will get better. I remember watching him as a scrawny, lanky kid in ill fitting attire in 2016 and thinking he looked special.
He's passionate as you say, also he was very self critical openly, but seems to be controlling that better now. Nice gesture you made there!

It's hilarious how much British people hate the champion that is Novak. Murray will never be on Djokovic's level. Novak will probably go down as the best ever, with this form surely he will beat the 20 GS titles. And people who complain about Novak being arrogant and impudent, cast your memory back to the Wimbledon 2019 final, where the British public was boorish and disrespectful to the champ.
Wimbledon's always like that with it's favourites, I've seen DF's from opponents vs Murray get cheered which is just despicable and shows how much a crowd really knows or cares about seeing good tennis.
I personally don't understand where this 'Novak is arrogant' comes from either, he tries too hard to be as loved as Federer + Nadal but that's about it.
Boxers are what arrogance looks like.

Rude, arrogant and devoid of charisma.
Has won at least a couple of slams by his unfair gamesmanship

Agreed. Full explanation can't be given in short texts. Perhaps 'arrogant' is a reduction - sense of entitlement and thinks he automatically deserves to be loved and adored perhaps as close as time allows. Sporting ability outstanding, personality, perspective and behaviour leave many cold.
You are right. Tactics such as taking MTO's at critical junctures etc....
You can almost bet that once his opponent breaks him, he will wangle an MTO to mess-up their rhythm and take back the momentum. I hate that.

With boxers everyone knows it's all trash talk and bravado and part of the pantomime. Novak actually believes he deserves to be loved for being 'the best' and seems genuinely annoyed people don't love him as much as he thinks he deserves to be loved. Maybe you're right - perhaps not arrogance but some sort of childish immaturity to think he automatically deserves that love and praise. Unappealing.

His match against Querrey earlier this week should fantastic character. I was disappointed a little with how he faded against Medvedev in the US Open, they are going to have many battles in the future and so far it is a very lopsided rivalry, it is definitely he code he needs to crack. Like Zverev far too much attention on him as a teenager, it takes time, I think the next gen finals are no good
Several bookmakers have them both as joint favourites or just a quarter of a point difference favouring Nadal.

Thiem would beat Schwartzman. It will be tough, but his consistency on this surface the past few years and current form will see him through. Zverev is not consistent enough for me. I think Sinner is the favourite in that match. I think Nadal should be getting ready to face Sinner in the quarters. Nadal should prevail, but I see him losing a set in that quarters.

Not going to mention Nadal's is even easier?
At least Djokovic finally has some form of opposition in R4, Nadal's playing a guy with 0 tour level matches before this tournament who's an absolutely massive fan and will likely fold like a cheap tent in awe the same way Goffin did years ago as a youngster vs his idol Federer on the same court.

Vile man with anti vex beliefs and who held a reckless super spreader covid tournament infecting countless people as he danced topless round a nightclub embracing everyone around him (and then getting covid himself - surprise surprise). I hope Rafa absolutely crushes him in the final.
Hopefully soon!

Unlikely. As Owen said, he is technically brilliant and top of his game so should easily beat other top quality, talented players and is better than almost all of them. But the fact most tennis fans say that begrudgingly shows he is unlikely to be a true representative or folk hero of the sport, like Federer, something he would dearly love but is far from deserving. At least yet! Stranger things..

But the mask will slip again, as it always does, probably once he gets an opponent who isn't a qualifier. Be it denying science, smacking a line judge or timewasting and feigning injury, there's always something bad around the corner.

Just think had Djokovic not have lost those two GS finals against the very fortunate Murray due to injury and fatigue, he would be level with the great Nadal and 1 behind the legend Federer. Astonishing considering he is the least talented of the big 3.
Keep on trolling. Badly.
Rubbish. So Novak came back from 2 sets down at the US Open to level the match because he was injured/tired?? They were both tired after nearly 5 hours but Andy had enough left to win the final set. That wasn't good fortune; it was a combination of hard work and talent. To refer to him as 'fortunate' is an insult and patently not true.

Several bookmakers have them both as joint favourites or just a quarter of a point difference favouring Nadal.
Exactly, there is no clear favourite. I was just correcting your comment. ; )
Which does not make him a clear favourite
Fair enough, I was correcting Djokovic being the 'clear' favourite when I said Nadal was I just meant favourite not 'clear' should have clarified that
Thiem will win anyway ??
Thiem will win anyway ??
Wimbledon's always like that with it's favourites, I've seen DF's from opponents vs Murray get cheered which is just despicable and shows how much a crowd really knows or cares about seeing good tennis.
I personally don't understand where this 'Novak is arrogant' comes from either, he tries too hard to be as loved as Federer + Nadal but that's about it.
Boxers are what arrogance looks like.

Slim chance Tsitsi could beat Djoko in SF. No-one else in Djoko half was going to trouble him (DM injured), no wonder he is so relaxed. Rublev not good enough if he were to beat Tsitsi for 2nd week in a row
Maybe a surprise in Nadal's half of draw?
Chasm between top 2 and rest of field actually getting wider. Thiem's USO feels like Delpo '09 and Cilic '14. The guard did not change. Zzzzzzz

Don't think Tsitsipas would beat him in these current conditions, his BH + serve are good but in these even slower conditions Djokovic would turn both to nothing.
Though I'd prefer Altmaier to beat PCB as I think he's dull as dishwater Novak vs Busta will probably be the most interesting match involving Djokovic until the final if he gets there.

Thiem have been knocking on the door for a while now and has finally won a GrandSlam. Thiem is far better and consistent than Del Potro or Cilic. Thiem has played 4 GrandSlam finals and won 1. He will definitely win more. Australian open 2020, beat Nadal and Zverev in the quarters and semi's in 4 sets and ran out of steam in the finals losing in 5 sets to Djokovic. Thiem is the real deal.
The bottom line he is a divisive character whether people like it or not much the same way is Serena Williams is
Lots of people like him and lots don't, it's pointless to debate it
People have their opinions let them get on with it and enjoy the tennis I say

Dont see that he is any more desperate to win than any other player. He applauds opponents good shots and is genuine in congratulating opponents when they beat him. He is not my favourite player to watch - I much prefer Federer - but I just don't get why he is unpopular

The key for Thiem if he beats Nadal and faces Djokovic in the final, is how much the semi final takes out of him. I feel he will need to beat Nadal in straight sets, which is unlikely. It will be a brutal match for both players.

Novak Djokovic could be beaten by Zverev, Rublev, Thiem, Pablo Carreno Busta, Rafa, Fucsovics, Gaston etc.
Just wait and see. He’ll be dethroned. So far he’s had it too easy.

Rublev v Djokovic would be a better match in the semifinals, Rublev is strong on both wings and moves exceptionally well on a clay court, Rublev beat Thiem earlier in the year on one of those challenge events during the pandemic, 66-1 he was at the start of the tournament ??
Berrettini losing was a big shock, he's been playing really well. Good to see Khachanov looking decent again, when he was younger he was reminiscent of Safin, hopefully he gives Djokovic a hard match.
Rublev looked imperious in crushing Anderson, though that's not hard nowadays. I always thought he would be the best of the three Russian men, good to see him progressing again after injuries.

Agreed. Full explanation can't be given in short texts. Perhaps 'arrogant' is a reduction - sense of entitlement and thinks he automatically deserves to be loved and adored perhaps as close as time allows. Sporting ability outstanding, personality, perspective and behaviour leave many cold.
Djokovic is like Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid. Clearly a role model... You people just hate him because subconsciously he doesn't feel like one of your own!
A simply wonderful tennis player. Up their with the very best.

I never said 'desperate' I said 'obsessed' there is a big difference.
He does applaud opponents but he also calls for the trainer or argues with the umpire just before an opponent is about to play a key point or game.
But as I explained he is a divisive character, I respect him as a player and he is rightly an all time great and I respect his fans as I do all proper tennis fans.

So 'Nadal may get past Zverev' but you are putting Thiem straight into the semi finals are you?
It is more likely Thiem will lose to Schwartzman than Nadal will lose to Zverev

Thiem would beat Schwartzman. It will be tough, but his consistency on this surface the past few years and current form will see him through. Zverev is not consistent enough for me. I think Sinner is the favourite in that match. I think Nadal should be getting ready to face Sinner in the quarters. Nadal should prevail, but I see him losing a set in that quarters.
Don't get me wrong I'm a Thiem fan and hope he wins the title I was just surprised why someone would think Nadal would struggle against Zverev but not that Thiem would against Schwartzman. Both quarter finals (if they happen) are very tough a Thiem Nadal semi looks very likely but not nailed in as many assume
The guys a joker
I'd love to hear the 3 downvoters reasons for doing so when nobody with an ounce of sense would disagree with this whether they like the man or not.
Then again there's so many sports fans in our country who will try and say black is white when it comes to someone they don't like, all logical thinking goes out of the window.

Nadal often calls for the trainer when losing. Federer did too in AO final. I would dearly have loved to see Federer beat Djokovic at Wimbledon 2019. But I just dont see that he has not done anything 'worse' than any of his rivals.

The commentary team on ITV4 were overly praising Altmaier and even mentioned him alongside Federer. Even though Berrettini is ranked 8th he has been awful the first 2 rounds and atrocious today, Altmaier won't win a single set against Carreno Busta, he is nothing special and will go out on Monday.

Ok. I see your point. Yeah! Totally agree with you. Personally, I know Nadal is the king of clay, but he is getting older and Thiem is getting stronger all the time. His first GrandSlam win at the US Open would give him that extra believe now. I expect Nadal -Thiem to play semi-finals and it's going to be very close. I just think it's Thiem's time to finally get one over Nadal on clay over 5 sets.
It would be great if Scotland's Andy Murray was still there.

Even if he beats Nadal and loses in the final, he can tick off beating Nadal at the French Open and being only the third man to do so, he'll take that
This is where Thiem will show what he has - can he get passed Nadal (probably not!) and after that get passed Djokovic (again probably not) but if he can he will show he is the real deal.
Already proved he is the best of the rest but will be tough getting passed 2 of the best ever.

Still sticking with pre tournament prediction of Thiem and Djoko
Unlike Wimbledon the French Open is quite predictable - no interesting contests until the QF / SF

Fair point. I was thinking more about upsets involving the favourites
Medvedev has never won a match at Roland Garos, That was hardly a shock, He plays to flat, and doesn't move well on clay, Warwinka 36 and is half player he was 4 years ago
Well done BBC for taking down a comment where I refer to Rafa having a dry personality. This coming from a company that turned a blind eye to operation ewe tree .. double standards

There doesn't appear to be any issue with the achilles, but to me he looks like he's blowing hard after long points.
Did he get a drugs test?

I see Djocovic is attempting to improve his public image after hitting a line judge in the neck with a tennis ball by helping clear the court of rainwater. What a vain man.
Perhaps he was just trying to be helpful? Or are you certain that this was an underhand calculated plot by a 'vain man' to increase his publicity?
Really???? It seems to me no matter what he says or does it is somehow twisted into wrong. Man just can't "win"... And I am not talking about matches, which he does win weather you lot like it or not. I am in awe of how he puts all this negativity aside and keeps playing astonishing tennis, match after match. For me this makes his every GS twice as worthy for any one Nadal or Federer get.
Hard to tell which of the bigger names is actually playing well as they are having it so easy. Can’t quite work out if they are brill, or opposition awful. I guess with slower courts the more consistent player will win, so it favours the big names even more.
