World champion Josh Taylor knocks out Apinun Khongsong in an incredible first round to defend his WBA and IBF light welterweight titles.
The guy was complete garbage, nobody has even ever heard of him! This is why people don't like the sport due to the promoters putting on rubbish fights for easy money for themselves and the fighter.
Not exactly the Rumble in the Jungle. When are Fury and AJ getting it on more to the point??
Anthony 'cash cow' Joshua has been protected for too long

Taylor is a beast, anyone who knows him or has watched his last few fights knows his body shots are brutal and he has it all, heavy hands skilful boxer who can mix it up with the fighters like Ramirez, honestly cant see any way he loses.
Josh shouldn’t try to kid the public, he hit the guy with an average punch and the guy dived. He should be honest and describe it as it was, a nonsense. He’s nothing to do with it, in my opinion the guy felt the force of Josh and bottled it, don’t pretend it was anything else, we all saw it!! The Ramirez fight will be good!! Someone needs to coach Josh about his PR and ensure he doesn’t bs!!
Coming from someone who’s never been punched in the liver
Even if Josh thought that finish was dodging what benefit does he get from slagging the boy off? Surely its much better to big up his own body work and give future opponents more to think about. Do you expect him to say aye barely touched that boy no sure what that was awe aboot? Josh is the real deal Ramirez fight will be awesome

Ramirez will be a completely different kettle of fish than Khongsong. Be a good contest - agree with him that’d be better with a crowd

Well done Josh.
Man was 16 & 0 & brought power. You boxed beautifully so ignore the naysayers, they will, naturally, say nay. Onwards & upwards. I hope Ramirez next & then would you step up for Crawford or Spence?

Josh is the real deal unlike the glass chinned hype jobs slagging him off.
First round KO, hardly the sort of challenge anticipated or required to indicate this was a genuine opponent. Meaningless garbage !
I,m one of Taylors biggest fans and watch every one of his fights but seriously I,ve banged my leg off my coffee table harder than that punch looked. Nothing against Josh but have to question how that ended. Khongsong??? Making his money elsewhere.
I've broken a toe clipping it lightly. Sometimes it just gets you right. I find it easier to believe this guy broke a rib than took a dive, if that's what you're getting at.
I would like to support him, but unfortunately he is a David Icke supporting, coronavirus conspiracy theorist.

Who cares? Really, pretty much everyone has an opinion you'll disagree with. I remember back in the day when people didn't give a toss what someone else thought.
David Icke? TC ... I thought you were going to tell me he was a Hibs supporter!
Was Josh debating or boxing tonight? Was the article about boxing or Josh's personal views? Stick to topic. It's not hard!

Its not "just an opinion". You're acting like its similar to asking someone their favourite pizza topping. Its not an opinion, its an attitude. One that can leave people who come into contact with them at risk of catching a contagious virus.

email from BBC says it was "off topic". Personally I don't think the BBC mods like me saying that the media are about as trustworthy as someone who sells books. Or maybe they don't like govt agenda being questioned. Who knows?

Only the gullible will have been fooled by this.
Boxing still corrupt to the core.

No better than Ricky Burns...the chief ned.
Abysmal 'fight'.

As is your attitude. Why watch (or comment) if you hate so much? No one is making you.
And having “bhoy” in your name isn’t neddy at all, is it? Well done josh, pride of Scottish boxing
Full respect to you Josh. From a proud fellow East Lothian bloke watching you rise to rule the world!

I can't remember seeing a professional, undefeated boxer, fighting for a world title, in the first round, under his first proper punch, to the body, collapse like that? Sixteen undefeated wins, yet a single punch to the ribs makes him collapse in writhing agony?
I've had blancmanges with more body, candyfloss with more longevity, and baked tougher souffles.
I can only assume some sort of fix?

Maybe you should take a punch to the ribs from Josh Taylor. When you get out of hospital, you can tell us all what it felt like!
I'm assuming you've never been hit in the ribs by a word champion boxer. The Thai lad was tall with broad shoulders but was narrow around the waist & that was a perfect punch from Taylor. Maybe the rib was broken!
Dean, you've obviously never broken a rib...one of the most painful things, you can't even breathe
Maybe not knocked out in the first round but plenty have gone down for a count.
How many did Mike Tyson finish?
Did they all dive?
Point is that a powerful shot to the ribs/liver area is going to put most of fighters down.
I wouldn't fancy taking a punch from any pro fighter there.

Don't visit boxing sites if you don't like boxing.....simple.
Really????
And how do you come to that conclusion?
I'd love to see you have a conversation with some of these thugs as you put it.
There are a lot of fighters who are articulate and eloquent with the business brain to make millions from their talent.
Thugs?
A little more thought process from you please.

One really good punch in the right place can defeat even a superior boxer. I can remember Henry Cooper almost becoming world champion when he floored Muhammad Ali just before the end of a round. Ali's trainer admitted he cheated by slicing Ali's glove in the interval, giving him an extra 5 minutes to recover while a new pair was obtained.
That Cooper/ Ali fight wasn’t a title fight but our ‘Enery came so close. Shame cooper’s eyebrows were like tissue paper otherwise he’d have had a better career
Enry's Hammer was a fearsome punch, as Ali found out. They sliced Ali's glove to give him more time to recover.
This is a common misconception Bill. First, the Copper Clay (he was still clay then), was not for the title. Even if Cooper had won, he would not have become champion. Second, Dundee the trainer, admitted exposing the ‘cut’ glove to the ref not ‘slicing’ it. Film stills from the fight show the stuffing already showing out of the stitching on the glove at the start of the round Clay was dropped.
Ricky burns was. Some people just can’t celebrate local success in Scotland. It’s weird tbh

Don’t believe everything you read on the internet. The round interval was not 5 minutes, the ref refused the protestations by Dundee and there was around 3 seconds extra between the rounds as a result. There is footage and numerous factual statements that make your little comment laughable.

I hope they don't have a stupid rematch clause in their contract like the boxing mafia put in for the heavyweights!
They don't. It's champions who put rematch clauses into contracts so that if they lose, they have the chance to regain their title. If the challenger wants a shot at the title, they have to accept the rematch clause (unless they are mandatory challengers, then the title holder has no leverage).

BBC at it again, he's from Prestonpans, why not say Scotland? Every time a non English sportsperson wins they are British or from some obscure place that few have heard of. Come on beeb give the Scots some credit!
First sentence of the second paragraph starts with "The Scot"...
Also, Prestonpans isn't that obscure if you know your history - it was the site of the first major battle of the second Jacobite rebellion
Dude, Chill...
PS I'm a Scot

I think the BBC covered it on the first line of the second paragraph, 'The Scot, 29, struck the Thailand fighter...'. I think you need to be a bit less insecure
The second paragraph says he is a Scot!
Really... : What utter rubbish, read the article properly before spouting such nonsense, you just make yourself look idiotic!
Huh? You've got to be trolling, my intellectually challenged friend. Whenever the article refers to his nationality, it says Scot. Not once does it say he's British.
If you're not actually trolling, you might want to take a rummage through your medicine cabinet to see if there's something in there to treat your inferiority complex.

I said exactly the same but my post has been removed! Not controversial. Just a comment.
Would love to see him versus Tyson Fury , would be a great fight.
Why has Whyte got a rematch against Povetkin then? He’s got NO belts

He was very much on for a huge money fight for belts. So the rematch clause protects him if he loses. Good thing he had one!
The fight was actually for Whyte's interim WBC Heavyweight Title & the vacant WBC Diamond Heavyweight Title but mainly for Whyte's WBC mandatory challenger position.
Whyte could have sat on that mandatory position and waited for his title chance - but in order to tempt Whyte into taking this risky fight with him, Povetkin was prepared to sign a rematch clause.

For those saying the body shot did not loom hurtful, you had better think again and my guess is you have never boxed. I boxed for three years as a welterweight and was only ever an average opponent, but was never stopped. I had a few standing counts for head shots. But I was dropped hard once in the gym with a body shot under the right rib by a guy who was not even that skilled. It happens.
Did ye aye
you can only ever beat whats put in front of you if you turn down the mandatory challenger you end up in court
Totally agree

Really... : I'm afraid that your assertion of bias against Scots by BBC only mentioning his town & calling him British is utter tosh! I refer you to the first line of the 2nd paragraph which starts with the phrase, and I quote "The Scot struck the Thailand fighter..". Clearly, you want to see prejudice where there is none as in addition this piece was from a Scots reporter for BBC Scotland - Fool!

If Taylor knocks him out early the guy was a bum. If it turns in to a hard fight it was a rubbish performance. Lose / Lose in this situation unfortunately particularly in the UK where people are wired up wrong when it comes to sport.
