The current position is unsustainable. The massive long term damage being done to the economy will become apparent shortly. If we allowed this virus to run its course with zero intervention over 99% of the population would be here afterwards according to all the data. I'm not suggesting that we do that but the current total lock-down cannot last. A more sustainable position must be adopted.

A local supermarket is rationing loo rolls-perfectly sensible! But you're only allowed two "units" and a unit is a pack of loo rolls. So you can't buy 3 lots of of 4 packs but are absolutely at liberty to buy a 16 pack. There's something not quite right here. Rationing won't work anyway. Mr Smith buys loo rolls at 9am, Mrs Smith at 9.30 and their children Gill and John at 10 and 10.30.

@782 I agree with some of your points, but the fact remains that to allow 80% of the population to catch it while remaining within the NHS capacity (even if that was feasible) would simply take years. The fact is at the moment there is no exit strategy at all. Anyway don't want to start a long discussion, the thread is on the volunteers (who are all amazing). But herd immunity is not the plan!

Huge numbers of the ultra vulnerable and actual casualties of this virus will be smokers, or ex-smokers, possibly also vapers. When the crisis is over the government must ramp up the attack on smoking to eliminate the habit entirely. The Aussies are doing better - a packet of twenty costs circa £20 down there now.

Supermarket reducing opening hours and shelves are empty. We are let to believe that this is due to the corona virus. Then why isn't that the case in Italy & Spain or anywhere else in the EU? Exactly, these countries are in the EU but the UK is out of the EU. Is that a coincident? No, experts told the UK that this would happen after Brexit?

Nothing since dec 12th when it was suggested an increase of 15-20% on that average would be expected. What we don't need from this government is them using the good will of people as a replacement for the services we pay them to provide. Foodbanks are now so common, the government refuses to deal with the underlying reasons for them. When this is over, a thorough review is needed of the part that this government has played in the unnecessary deaths of its citizens through lack of NHS funding.

It might sound well and good the people in power dishing out the orders and healing the world making it a better place but how sustainable is this surreal situation for the masses. Restricted to stopping in all the time and having to get up at 5am to be sure of reaching the supermarket early when needed. I think the bakeries should have remained open... food is food supermarkets or bakery shops.

899 Agree as there is very little food in the supermarkets we are really struggling as we took the governments advice and didn't hoard. Now just have a few meals left..

900. Posted byJohn Worthingtonon 4 minutes ago How should you handle your post, that is delivered by the postman every day? ----- Just received not one but two brown HMRC envelopes issuing penalty charges for late tax returns ...for which I have receipted acknowledgements. Not even Covid stops the grasping taxman. Brick up your letterbox!
