The role of volunteers will be "absolutely crucial" in fighting coronavirus, says Boris Johnson.

This really seems to be bringing out the best in people. Perhaps some thought could be given to creating some civil award to recognise the true heroes in this crisis. It seems that most people actually care about looking after the most vulnerable. I'm wondering if anyone is doing the shopping for Prince Charles who's tested positive!

I absolutely respect all the volunteers. Are those who come into contact with vulnerable groups being given full PPE and a test? If not, this is a hair brained idea that will make matters worse. Is there a financial package for the self employed yet and someone, somewhere please explain how Builders are 'key' workers? Anyone who ever worked on a building site knows this policy is a joke.

So 170,000 regular citizens have signed on to help their communities. People are mostly heeding warnings to stay at home. Essential workers are putting themselves and their families at risk to keep things running. Meanwhile Prince Charles and Camilla have bogged off to their holiday cottage in Scotland (forbidden for the rest of us). Wishing them well, but not good role models.

With all the time I have in the world (no regular commitments with work, commuting and voluntary organisations) I wish I could do something more to help others than be stuck in. The trouble is with all this isolation, there is a lack of direct communication (word of mouth, neighbours, community) so unless something obvious is posted for specific needs (like helping the NHS) how do we find out?

Brexit is irrelevant and increasingly so as we face the depression which will surely follow the current situation. Inspiring? He has only done what any PM would do when in this situation. It has been confirmed that the CDC told Donald Trump misinformation about the validity of testing kits. @363 Coronavirus is a whole family of viruses. Some of them cause mild illness (like colds) some of them cause very serious illnesses (like MERS) - though none of them cause flu (which is a different family of viruses). Nobody is talking about them as a family though, when people say "Coronavirus" at the moment, they're specifically and only talking about the new strain that causes COVID-19

How ridiculous. Is this another PR stunt. Whatever, it really does not matter - because if we all tested today, we would all have a 'mild' Coronovirus. It lives and surrounds us along with millions of other viruses and microbes every day and we only suffer symptoms if our immune system is compromised or we have other serious medical problems that the body has to deal with first. We've all got it!

It’s amazing to see so many volunteers putting their own lives at risk. They must be inspired by their future king; decamped to a second home in the rurally challenged Cairngorms, tested for the virus when he has only mild symptoms- not in fulfilment of the Scottish criteria, and wife tested although asymptomatic. A homeopathic test? No test in England for frontline clinical staff! Pull together!
