8? competitive games if Egypt get to final at the Olympics and back possibly a week late for premier League but match fit and raring to score or a pre season playing weakened and protected friendly games for the sponsors. If he hadn't had a pre season with Klopp/Liverpool fair enough. He's done enough to prove he can turn up and play. What a calender year he could have.

I certainly think we don’t take the olympics seriously at all (when it comes to football). Sure the World Cup and Euros will always be the big ticket items, but other countries do take football in the olympics seriously. If an individual really wants to compete and has the opportunity to come away with a medal, why not? I hope the club and player come to a decision that suits both parties.

It's not like he doesn't know how Liverpool play and is gonna miss loads of important information is it. Football should not be represented at the Olympics, it already has its big events. There are plenty more sports that are poorly represented that could be used instead. I have the same opinion for Tennis, Golf Rugby, baseball unless it is competed by non professional players. All these sports have multi million pound players who do not need more options to earn money.

It's almost as though the African nations want to kill the prospect of their best players making a successful career in Europe. Already the AFCON is a deterrent to signing African players because of the loss of talent in January every 2nd year. @45 Nat “Football should not be an olympic sport“ Exactly, just like golf and tennis. Olympics is supposed to be the pinnacle of a sport. For football, it’s not even in top 10, WC, Euros/ACN etc , EPL/SerieA etc, CL, FA cup, Europa Cup, EFL cup, Community Shield, CheckaTrade Trophy, FA Trophy, FA Vase, UEFA Regions Cup, NW Counties League Cup, FA Sunday Cup, AFA Senior Cup, Olympics

@73 "Olympics is supposed to be the pinnacle of a sport." Totally agree, if the pinnacle of your sport is not the Olympics, then it shouldn't be in the Olympics. Football, golf, tennis, basketball, baseball (I'd keep softball), road cycling should go. That said, let Mo decide, he's probably earned the right to go represent his country, they play a very well formed pyramid formation!

Olympics isn't what it used to be.....nowadays, as far as UK Athletics is concerned, it's not the taking part that counts, it's the winning. No shiny medals, no funding.

Why can't the Olympics be for amateur soccer players or even have mixed sides? Do something different - same could be said for the Olympic golf tournament, mixed pairs not 72 holes of stroke-play.

Football an Olympic sport is just daft. The Ancient Greeks would probably see it more as a drama, than sport.

The Olympics are bloated and massively over priced. Dropping soccer, golf, basketball etc. reduce these and will add focus on sports like table tennis and archery.

@ 71. the masked crusader "VAR champion 19-20 making their own rules as the go and the fa just bend over and take it" --- I do believe we are seeing the complete brain freeze of all the Liverpool haters lol What rules have Liverpool made up on this story? This has nothing to do with the English FA either. Liverpool premiership champions 2020 - that has a nice feel about it...

Even if he didn't want to, Salah has to be seen to be willing and desiring to go, otherwise he runs the risk of being branded a "sell out" by his very emotional and patriotic people.

There is no need at all to include older players in the squads. Plenty of young ambitious players to fill any squad. None article. As usual.

This really is a non-story. The chances of Egypt reaching the final are slim to non-existent, therefore there will be no clash of fixtures. If he goes to the Olympics, Salah will do his "pre-season" in Tokyo rather than Liverpool.

It's almost certain LFC will buy a high profile forward in the summer so it's likely that the squad will not be adversely affected if Salah opts to go to the Olympics. Then he will return and fight for his place! That can only be healthy for the first 11
