I am surprised Puyol never got a sniff of the job. Someone strong needs to get a hold of Messi and Hannibal Suarez. They seem to be calling the shots and no matter how good you think you are that cannot be right. As Messi fades no one has the bottle to fade him out !

This is the hilarious thing about top teams. The absolute arrogance and sense of entitlement that the slightest dip in standard is deemed a sackable offence. Same in every country. Honestly try being a lower or non league outfit where a good season is still having a club to support at the end of it.

Barca are a huge club that theres no doubt about but theres also no doubt the club are on a downward curve, the owners have seen that and have acted. I was a staunch believer of La Liga being superior than the Premiership until the end of last season, I think Liverpool particularly and City to a degree must be frightening the pants off the so called heavyweights around Europe especially in La Liga

I see similarities between Barcelona now and ManU towards the end of Fergie's reign- in need of a complete revamp of the squad, but no-one wanting to put their foot on that pedal because the first changes might just make things worse & they're still winning stuff- just not as decisively or as nicely as they did. So its a difficult job to sell- do the club want major change or just a patch-up job

You lot need to read more books, and fewer comics. "Entitled" does not mean what you ostensibly think it does. Barsa and Madrid are not entitled to win anything, but at those 2 institutions, there is an expectancy that the senior teams will be good enough to compete every year for the top trophies. You don't spend all that money and just accept failure to do so. Get real.

They could've let him walk on his own terms last summer, instead a sacking middle of season to ruin his resume. Barcelona seem to have myopic memory they had years of wilderness before pep came along, Now they think they need to win Champions league every year so messi can have his Ballon D'or.

Barca and Madrid are the 2 glamour cats of world footy at the moment, anybody interested in footy should be fascinated at their new choice of manager, well done BBC for international coverage. though keep Scottish and English footy as the mainstays, with a bit of Welsh, and even Ireland a tiny bit

Re the game at Anfield, Barcelona kept playing the same way when when shipping goals. This to me shows tactical ineptitude, an Italian team of yesteryear would have shut up shop at Liverpool and protected their health lead - practising the 'dark arts' - fouling etc to achieve their aim. Barca instead passed the ball to Messi and expect to score. At 2-0 bring on defensive midfielder, shut up shop

A spectre is haunting Europe — the spectre of Kkloppism. All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: Bayern and Utd, Barca and Madrid, Milan and Juventus... Kloppism is already acknowledged by all European powers to be itself a power. England, Europe and the World is ours!

The only time I want to hear anything, anything at all about Barcelona or Real Madrid the two most detestable clubs in history are when an English team is playing them. Who manages them, what players they have, how old they are I dont care about or want to hear about. They are the enemy. Every single club in Britain is more important to me than this drivel. Talk about Leeds, Derby..etc.

@85 That's fine for you, but there are lots of people on here who are avid football fans and follow most of the major leagues in Europe as well as the lower leagues in the UK. Not to mention the many EU citizens that live here and the UK immigrants living in Spain. So chill out. At the least you must admit this coverage is more welcome than the increasing NBA and NFL stuff?

I said this yesterday but I’ll say it again. The biggest issue in Barcelona is that of the Catalan independence campaign. They have an exiled president who had just taken his place in the European Parliament who only today said that he wants the EU to accept the Catalans right to self determination. What happens if Catalonia gets its independence? A league similar to Scotland’s?

Said it on an earlier thread Barcelona is the football equivalent of Game of Thrones. Money and politics intertwined under a sporting canopy and the article alludes to this behind the scenes intrigue. Neymar is not the missing jigsaw piece as Messi heads inevitably to a retirement home. Cruyff brought a type of thinking which trained in-house ultimately to success. Now lost in space

Is BBC new acquisition Sr. Balague to be paid by the word? If this hyperventilating driveling tautology about Spanish football is typical, broadcast license payees should demand financial accountability.
