The move comes as the bank cuts the interest rate it pays on its flagship current account.

@310 - The BBC system of post moderation is obviously not very effective. This is offensive to anybody who is not an extreme racist.

@587 AlexSandor. Since when did the government control the banks? Never. Oh dear, you look silly now!
Isn't it telling that Jews were hated through the ages for moneylending and now it's commonplace? What an amazing world that is totally spoiled by money markets, politicians, warmongers and intolerance. Always look on the bright side of life!! Removed
588. Iggle Jews often had to resort to money lending as they were historically kept out of other trades by local rulers or influential church leaders (Catholic doctrine in the Medieval time was that charging interest was a sin). Money lending / tax/rent collecting often was the only way to make money to live and thus makes you an easy hate figure for anyone looking to distract the masses Removed

Well well, it's only mid Jan and already were seeing the effects of unfettered Tory rule. More economic collapse and pain for the many. Hey ho, you voted for it !! The plebs never learn. It's a golden age alright. For some people. Removed

@643 "So don't use overdraft scrounger Brexiteers" Interesting that you think only Brexiteers have overdrafts. Overdrafts are available to everybody with a current account, Labour, Tory, Remainer, Brexiteer and many other labels, all included. Even so, im glad you have managed to work up the courage to post such a comment considering how dim it makes you look, so congratulations....

628 Alex Sandor It's the tories making the financial rules, not the Spanish ---- But in this case it's an internal decision by a Spanish Bank based entirely on profit for them. Nothing to do with UK banking regulations, which in this case is the same as Spain. Please try to keep up before you type politically biased bile.

Sheer greed and typical of the banks. I enquired at Metro Bank the other day about their overdraft rates. It's 15% and the manager told me as far as he knew there was no plan for them to raise it. Whilst banks are closing branches, Metro are opening them. Eventually they will be the only bank left to offer something of a service to the paying public.
Re 692. Metro Bank is in difficulty. It has been incorrectly reporting its capital ratios. stay clear. Removed

698 DVV Your post could be taken as slander my friend. I'd take it down if I were you. You obviously know very little about the financial world. Metro Bank are NOT in difficulty at all. Speak to a manager there and find out the truth. The City and FSA are fully aware of what happened, and it was a genuine error, and it won't be long before it's officially reported as such.

Simply don’t allow overdrafts. The root cause is people spending more than they earn. They simply never learn
@859 I know! All those single parents who's ex-partners never pay a penny in maintenance with their zero hour contracts and limited childcare abusing their overdraft trying to make ends meet. Scroungers the lot of em. Spending more than they earn. They never learn. Line em up against the wall eh? Removed
